September, 2003

Brethren,
August was a busy month! We had a great turnout for the Reid J. Simmons Academy of Masonic Leadership (but did not better last year’s record); accompanied our DDGM, RW Wayne Grindle Sr., to Barboursville Lodge No. 112 to deliver the GMs Traveling Trowel; enjoyed a great Wardens Night Program to include reception of our DEO, Wor. Roger Firestone, at our August Stated which featured our Senior Warden, Wor. Russ Williams, in the East; conducted another well-attended Lite Nite (Masonic Education) Program which featured a video on Masonic symbolism that included our very own Bro. Ernie Lissabet as the interviewer; held our second annual Henry Lodge/Cobbdale Community picnic which was a rousing success with over 80 attending; and awarded our Canaday Scholarship ($500) to Ms. Andrea McDaniel, who is now entering her Sophomore Year at Mary Washington College, during our traditional Peach Night Program which featured a wide assortment of delicious peach desserts.
My heartfelt thanks to: (1) the Brethren who donated the new gas grill to the lodge (see picnic pictures below), (2) to our Past Masters — Wor. Bob Williams, Wor. Ralph Smith, Wor. Bobby Campbell and RW Bill Sheads for their hard work in maintaining our grounds and (3) to the Picnic Crew (see below) whose labors produced a wonderful event.
Looking ahead to September, the lodge will hold a special, not to be missed, Reunion With History, as we again return to the City of Fairfax Old Town Hall, which served as our Temple from the early 1900’s through June of 1971 for our Stated Meeting on the 9th. Bring a Mason as your guest and join us! Dinner will require an advance ticket purchase. See below for details.
On September 11th we will reflect and remember the lives lost during the 9-11-01 terrorist attack by observing Patriot Day. See the enclosed calendar for details on this and the many September opportunities to come together in friendship and fellowship.
If you haven’t been to lodge in a while —resolve to do it this month!
See you in lodge!
Harry
Worshipful Master

„Bring A Friend. As Senior Deacon it is always good to practice the ritual of the three Masonic degrees. But, it is even better to confer the degrees —– which requires a candidate. That’s where you can help! On October 21 Henry Lodge No. 57 will host an open house from 7:30 – 9:00 pm, so please bring a friend with his family, or members of your family such as brother-in-law, nephew, son, or grandson. There will be food, fellowship, and plenty of information about our craft —– but the success of the program is in your hands —– just BRING A FRIEND! [Contributed by Bro. Clesson McDonald, Senior Deacon] |
|
„No Host Dinners Out. On Saturday, Sep 6th, the third of four quarterly No Host Dinners Out will be held. Just show up at the Lodge at 6:00 pm. After determining the groups preference for dinner, we will proceed to the selected restaurant and enjoy good food and great fellowship. Dress is casual. |
|
„Patriot Day Program. The WM invites you to join him at the lodge on Sep 11th at 7 pm for a Patriot Day Ceremony at the flag pole followed by an ice cream social. Patriot Day was established by the President under Public Law Mo. 107-89 to honor the innocent victims who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, on our country. |
„Fall Fishing Trip. The Fall Fishing Trip is planned for Sunday, Sep 21st —– space is limited so sign up now (see sign-up sheet on the lodge bulletin board. The WM “guarantees” that unlike the Spring Fishing Trip , this trip will feature both fishing and catching! |
|
„Henry Brothers In The News. Congratulations to three Henry Brothers in the news —– Bro. John Mayers Jr. who was recognized in ceremonies conducted on August 18th as the 19th recipient of the prestigious Fairfax County Fireman of the Year Award; Bro. Harold Chadsey whose work as a physicist with the Time Service Department (source of the nation’s time standard) of the US Naval Observatory was featured in the July 22nd issue of the Washington Post; and Bro. Vincenzo Casini who became a US Citizen on July 29th! |
