Henry Lodge #57 A.F. & A.M.

eTrestleboard and Calendar

March, 2003

Brethren,

Over 34 Brothers joined in fellowship for our February stated communication. Following a delicious dinner, lodge was opened to officially receive Wor. Robert L. Hopkins, our District Blood Coordinator. Wor. Rob’s message underscored the critical need to give the gift of life — often! A surprise was the appearance of the George Washington gavel on our altar (see pictures on page 5). The gavel was used by Wor. Bro. George Washington on 18 Sep 1793 during the laying of the corner stone of the U.S. Capitol. It was indeed an honor to have the gavel present in our Lodge and to welcome the Master of Potomac Lodge No. 5 of the Grand Lodge of D.C., Wor. Lonnie Jolma, and several of his officers. After our meeting, every Brother was afforded  an opportunity to have his picture taken holding the gavel.

March is a busy month — see the enclosed calendar for details. At our March stated communication we will welcome and hear from the 2003 Potentate of Kena Shrine, our very own Brother Bill Hendricks.

I ask every member of Henry Lodge to make an extra effort to bring a good man to our April 1st open house (see the enclosed flyer). Success of the program is in your hands — just Bring A Friend!

Please keep the following Brothers in your thoughts and prayers: Bro. Ken Haar who is recovering from surgery and RW Bill Sheads whose sister recently passed away.

See you in Lodge!

Harry

Worshipful Master

Win the George Washington Replica Penknife

As announced at the February stated meeting, the Master will present a replica of the George Washington penknife to the first Lodge member to decode the inscription shown below on the East side of our altar, determine the cipher used, use that cipher to encode the words “Henry Lodge,” and present the result to him in writing. You must also agree to present a short educational program at a future meeting.

"Lite" Nite Program

At 7:30p on March 4th, the first of four 1½ hour “Lite Night” programs will be held at the Lodge. Lite Night programs are designed to be informal (come casual) Masonic Education opportunities and will feature such things as movies, discussion groups, fellowship, fun and desserts. Our first program is designed for: (1) members who haven't been in Lodge in a while and may need a re-fresher on the signs and Masonic protocol; (2) new Masons who want to reinforce their knowledge; and (3) active members who want to share their knowledge.

2002 Past Master - Wor. Ralph Wilbur Smith, Jr. Recognized

Following a delicious pork and chicken bar-b-cue dinner in his honor , our 2002 Past Master, Wor. Ralph, was recognized for his outstanding work and valuable contributions to the Lodge during his year. Seven Past Masters stood with Wor. Ralph as his Past Master's Jewel was pinned on him by his Lady Dottie. Wor. Ralph took this opportunity to announce the dedication of the new kitchen exhaust hood to the memory of Bro. Bob Kluefer and his “HL57 2002 MASON OF THE YEAR,” Bro. Steven Sylvester. Congratulations Bro. Steve!

„Corrections

-New Trestleboard address labels have been prepared —– please notify the Lodge Secretary if you note any errors in your address label.

-In the February Trestleboard, the MAHOVA article should have stated “… consider giving a penny per day ($3.65/year) or more.” Help us make our Lodge goal of 100% participation by making a contribution to our Masonic Home —– and don’t forget to notify the Lodge Secretary that you have given so your participation can be recorded.

Wor. Harry congratulates Wor. Rob Hopkins, District Blood Coordinator, following his presentation on the giving of the gift of life.

On Valentines Day, 7 members of our Lodge stopped by to congratulate Bro. Wilson Witmer on reaching his 90th birthday and chat about “old times.” Bro. Witmer was presented a 2003 Lodge lapel pin, coffee mug and fruit basket.

Henry Lodge was honored to have the George Washington gavel (left) present at the February stated. Shown above from left to right are: Bro. Dallas Brumback, JW; Wor. Lonnie Jolma, Master of Potomac Lodge No. 5; Wor. Harry Sanders; and Wor. Russ Williams, SW.

Our immediate Past Master, Wor. Ralph Wilber Smith, Jr. and his Lady Dottie share a lighter moment during the recent dinner held at the Lodge in their honor.
