IN Memoriam: Our good brother, William Harnsberger Cullen, was called to the Celestial Lodge on August the 8th, 2002 only a few months short of his fiftieth Masonic birthday. The brethren of Henry Lodge assembled to pay the last offices to one who gave unstintingly of his time, talents and brotherly love. In conjunction with his VFW Post 8469 and American Legion Post, in excess of one hundred fifty participated in the three services. I should like to think that on the evening of our August stated meeting, the flickering light in the Tiler’s room was a farewell by Bill to all who entered the Lodge room to hear his resolution of respect read and witness the charter draped. |
Here
At Henry: We ended the month of July with Fraternal Visits to Mt.
Carmel 133 in support of our District Deputy to receive the Grand Master’s
Traveling Gavel and again at Linn Banks 126 to pass it on. Henry
then kicked off the month of August with a Fraternal Visit to Acacia
Lodge No. 16 where we hope curiosity was instilled via a an educational program
by your Master entitled “What Became of the Other Nine?”
Saturday,
the 3rd of August brought our neighbors from the community of Cobbdale to the
Henry Lodge Picnic and Open House. The temperature which had been soaring
all week did not let up and reduced the attendance considerable.
Nevertheless, about seventy brave souls were there. The youngest, Bro.
Harry Sanders granddaughter, Morgan, and the oldest, my favorite Yankee
fan, Wor. Bro. Tom Wickman’s mom (92 years young). This was a first time
combined event at Henry Lodge.
Thanks:
Before going further, let me thank all those who turned out to help put on our
picnic / open house. In particular we are indebted to Rt. Wor. Jim
Kincheloe for the use of his magnificent grill and to Rt. Wor. Bill Sheads for
acting as intermediary from the VFW Post No. 4684 (Blue and Gray) in lending us
tents, a propane cooker and cooking the corn.
Henry Lodge Excels: The Reid Simmons Masonic School of Instruction was attended by ten (10) Henry Lodge members for most of the session. Congratulations to Rt. Wor. Ed Ray who renewed his Gold card, to Rt. Wor. Charles Rowell for assisting in the administration of the School, Rt. Wor. Ed Cohen and Wor. Jim Hawkins for their classroom presentations and Rt. Wor. Bill Sheads, Wor. Nick Carter, Wor. Bob Williams, Bro. Harry Sanders and Bro. Clesson McDonald for gaining more light. Your Master was there also.

Fairfax Assembly No. 3 IORG: On Saturday, Sept. 7th at 3:00 PM Fairfax Assembly No. 3 will celebrate its Twenty-fifth anniversary while hosting Grand Visitation. This celebration is open to all and we should make every effort to support the young ladies of our Chapter. |
Elvis Sighted: Thanks to Hope Chapter No. 73, OES, Henry Lodge was served another delicious meal on the evening of our August stated meeting. Susie, the theme of Elvis and the table decorations to match were again first rate. Dottie and I happened to live near Memphis in the 50’s when Elvis was just coming into his own. Thanks for the memories and thanks for another job well done Sisters! Brethren, we will continue to have meals served prior to our stated meetings for the remainder of the year. Please join us to break bread and enjoy each others fellowship.
Facilities Chairman: For the remainder of the year, Bro. Johnny Mayers has agreed to assume the Facilities Chairmanship. Should you notice any building problems that need to be addressed, please let Bro. John know in order that we can get priority work orders assigned.
O.E.S. Steak Dinner: From 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, 8 September Hope Chapter will serve a Steak Dinner as a fund raiser. The Brethren of Henry Lodge will cook for them. Tickets are $12:00 Come out and enjoy a delicious steak from the charcoal grill, support our Eastern Star Chapter and relax in the company of family and friends.
Julianne Canaday Scholarship: Miss Elizabeth Catherine Elliott, past Honored Queen of Bethel No. 21, daughter of Bro. Edwin P. Elliott, Jr. and Mrs. Anne B. Elliott of Manassas was the recipient of this year’s award of $500.00 in memory of Julianne Canaday. Elizabeth will be a sophomore at The College of William and Mary where she is enrolled as a Pre-Med. Student. Our thanks to Wor. Russ Williams for his efforts in the selection process.
Peach
Night: What a fabulous assortment of peach desserts were served on
an evening when the friendship was as good as the dessert. R:.W:. Bill
Sheads saw to it that we had plenty of peach ice cream and Dottie Smith stopped
by a West Virginia orchard to bring beautiful, freshly picked fruit to complete
our theme.
September Stated: Brethren, our stated program on Tuesday 10, September will feature R:.W:. John P. Riddell and a presentation that probably could be construed to be ”what you heard is not what I meant or what I said is not what you heard” or words to that effect. They say that laughter is the best medicine so we should all be healed and part in good spirits.
Dinner will be served by the members of Hope Chapter No.73 O.E.S. starting at 6:30 PM
Notice to all who use the Lodge Room. Except for speakers who bring a glass of water, food and drink is not authorized in any of the second floor spaces. These spaces are clean and vermin free. Let’s keep them that way.
Fraternally,
Ralph
W. Smith, Jr.
