From The East

In Memoriam:  With the passing of Brother William Hotaling Henry Lodge has seen its ranks depleted once again.  A Masonic Memorial Service was held for our Brother on Tuesday, 17 September at the Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, VA.  May the Grand Architect of the Universe be with and comfort the family and friends of our deceased Brother.

Here At Henry:  An E/A degree was conferred on the first Tuesday of Sept. followed by a Master Mason’s degree on the 17th.  Congratulations to Bro. Harry Sanders who presided in the  East for the second section of the Masters degree and  we  welcome Bro. Gary Anthony Ogley as our youngest Master Mason. An additional E/A was scheduled for the 24th but the Trestleboard went to press prior to that event.

Low Vale:  On 5 Sept.,Rt. Wor. Bill Sheads, Rt. Wor. Ed Ray,  Wor. Bob Williams and your Master enjoyed another outstanding Lodge set in a quarry and hosted by Treadwell No. 213 and joined by Hunter No. 135.  To witness the ritual by star light under the canopy of heaven and assisted by candles puts many things in perspective.  In excess of a hundred brothers turned out and a special tip of the Henry Hat to Acacia 16 who had more than enough brethren to claim a double Fraternal visit were that possible.

Happy Anniversary Fairfax Assembly No. 3:  In August we had sightings of Elvis.  At the Grand Visitation and Twenty-Fifth Anniversary ceremony the girls put on a great skit from Annie and also The Lion King.  The Lodge room was full and we were treated to a top notch performance by our Rainbow Girls.  We are proud of our young ladies and give them a tip of the Henry Hat for outstanding work.  “Don’t pay any attention to that man behind the screen” …the Mother Advisor and Advisory Group should also take a bow.

Hope Chapter No. 73:  The ladies of the Eastern Star Chapter put on a whale of a steak dinner as a fund raiser.  My thanks to Rt. Wor. Ed Ray, Wor. Bob Williams, Bro. Harry Sanders and Bro. Clesson McDonald for fine tuning the steaks.

Worthy Matron Lee Hyer, her sister Susan and the loyal staff again presented Henry Lodge with a sumptuous repast for their Stated meeting with decorations reminiscent of 9/11.  Ladies, you just keep getting better and better.

A Thank You From Henry Lodge:  To our sister, Lee Hyer, for her substantial gift to the Lodge in Memory of her father, Herman George Fowler, 32 degree Mason and Shriner.  Brother Fowler had been a member of the Craft forty five years.

A Thank You From Henry Lodge:  To Brother Tim Groves who presented the Lodge with the new Sign Board at the front entrance.  Now is also a good time to thank him not only for years of help with refreshments but more importantly for his unselfish gift of time to our Rainbow Assembly.

Mt. Wor. James Dean Cole, PGM Brethren, mark your calendar for our October Stated meeting on the 8th when Mt. Wor. Cole will be our Founder’s Day Speaker.  All who have heard him speak know that a treat and probably a surprise will be forthcoming.

Fishing Trip:  Those hardy fisherman and women who will venture forth once more to test the waters of the Chesapeake Bay will assemble at the Lodge at 5:00 AM on Sunday, 6 October for a day of fun and fellowship.  Lunch will be provided at cost.

Degrees:  Brethren we will confer several degrees in October and vote on the Masonic proficiency of a Brother Fellowcraft.  Your attendance and possibly assistance could very well make this ritual an indelible imprint on our candidates minds.

Fraternally,

Ralph W. Smith, Jr.
