eTrestleboard and Calendar

August 2002

From The East

Brethren:

Let me open this month with a Mea Culpa.  I failed to add Wor. Paul Kulp’s name to the Fifty Year Members List commencing with the June Trestleboard and to recognize Bro. Clesson McDonald’s June Masonic birthday.

Too Late for July’s Trestleboard:

Fairfax Assembly No. 3 IORG:  On Sunday, June 23rd it was the honor and pleasure of your Master and Past Master, Bob Williams, to serve as escorts for two of our Rainbow Officers at the opening of their Grand Assembly in Richmond, Va.  Words alone can not justify what might be called a simple grandeur where mature presence, graciousness and beauty were combined.  If one can be proud and humble simultaneously that is the feeling that I derived from that event.  Well done young ladies of Fairfax Assembly No. Three!

Newest Master Mason:  On June the 25th, Henry Lodge was pleased to raise Martin Wayne Lester to the sublime degree of Master Mason.  Welcome aboard Marty.

Lord Fairfax Chapter DeMolay: Sunday, June 30th saw the Northern Region of Virginia Order of DeMolay confer honors at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.  Wor. Ed Carpenter received the Legion of Honor while Dad’s (and Bro’s.)  Jason Lotz and Tom Sellers each received the Cross of Honor.  You have honored Henry Lodge as well as yourselves.  Congratulations and well done.

Here at Henry:  100+ Fingerprinted and Photographed!  Brothers Clesson McDonald and Harry Sanders put together a great Child ID program on the 4th of July.  Bro. Harry found a new type of ink that gave near professional results in finger printing while requiring a minimum of cleanup.  He likewise used his new digital photo capability to provide each youngster a dated, color photograph to be included in the ID booklet. My thanks to Bro’s Sanders, McDonald, Mayers, Cohen, Rice, Woolever, Graffius and Lester.  A special thanks to Lynn Sanders, Gwen Cohen, Dianne Mayers and Jodi Lester who provided much needed assistance.

Shriner Hospital screening clinic for children:  The following info applies regarding screening children for possible admission to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Date: Aug 17, 2002        Time: 12 Noon to 3 PM                Place: Kena temple (main building)

Parents will fill out a form providing the basic info and a history of the child, but otherwise not much else is needed. It is open to all children, regardless of background, financial need, etc. For more information, contact Paul Wood at 703-455-8134.

Charity We have been asked as a Lodge to give a donation of $200.00 to the Masonic Home to be delivered to the Grand Master at his official visit to Districts 2,3 & 4 on Friday, 23 August.  If you can help, please make a check out to Henry Lodge and in the memo section, specify MAHOVA.

Likewise, Henry Lodge has purchased eight dozen Teddy Bears (all named Henry) to be provided to the Fire and Rescue Squad as well as the Police Department to be given to children during traumatic experiences.  The bears are 13 inches high with a yellow sweater showing the Square and Compasses with the inscription “ Masons Care.”  The cost is $5.50 each if you would like to contribute one or more and help your Lodge help a child.

Lodge Picnic and Cobbdale Open House:

When:    Saturday, 3 August from noon to four.        Where:  At the Lodge (10503 Oak Place)

This year we will host our neighbors of Cobbdale and conduct an Open House while enjoying our annual Lodge Picnic.  The folks from Cobbdale will bring appetizers, salads and desserts.  Henry will supply the hot dogs and hamburgers.  There will be a MOON BOUNCE provided by Cobbdale for the children.

Peach Night at Henry Lodge:  Saturday, August 17 at 7:00 PM let’s have a covered dish dinner with all deserts to feature peaches.  Bring your best peach pie, cobbler, cake, or any other recipe featuring that delectable fruit.  The Lodge will attempt to locate some genuine homemade peach ice cream.

Flash    In last months Trestleboard you received a pocket edition of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.  As a matter of curiosity on my part to determine who might have read their edition, a ten dollar bill was placed in one of the books at random and when Dottie and I stuffed the envelopes we had no idea who would receive the one with the special book mark.  Congratulations to Wor. Charles Benson of Hay Market Lodge for letting me know that he found the prize.  I still don’t know who else might have read those important documents but sincerely hope all will.  H’mmm.  Could there have been another bookmark out there somewhere???

Presentation Volumes  (containing the Book of Constitutions, Mentor’s Manual, Manual of Work, etc.) have finally arrived from the printer and will be issued to our newly raised Master Masons at this months (August) Stated meeting.  Brethren, make every effort to attend and have your volume signed according to the Cast who helped raise you.

I hope that your summer is going well, that you have had a chance to visit with family and that we will see you at the picnic on the 3rd of August and in Lodge when you get around to it.  Come to think of it a round “TUIT” came in you January Trestleboard.

Fraternally,

Ralph W. Smith, Jr.
